2015-2016 SMPS COLUMBUS CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Dear Fellow Columbus Chapter SMPS Members:

Spring is just around the corner and it is time in the SMPS Program year to begin thinking about the Columbus Chapter Board of Directors and Committee Co-Chairs for 2015-2016. We have had a successful year and we want to maintain that momentum going into the next program year. The Board has a wide variety of positions requiring different talents; however, the most important characteristic a Board member must possess is the ability to be forward-thinking, positive, and committed to making the Columbus Chapter, one of the best in the country. Does this describe you or someone you know?

There are many benefits to serving on the Board, both professionally and personally. The experience exposes you to more than 150 members of the Columbus Chapter, in addition to nearly 6,000 colleagues nationally. This experience provides the opportunity to grow your leadership skills and allows you to influence the Chapter for years to come, making a difference in your profession.

The terms of Nominations and Elections are outlined in the Columbus Chapter’s by-laws. The nominations may be made by individuals, self-nominations, or by petitions, and will be received by Nominations and Elections Committee. The Committee then determines a ballot with the slate of candidates; the ballot is then distributed and voted upon by the Chapter membership.

There are requirements one must meet in order to be eligible for a board position. If you are not eligible this year, now is an excellent time to join a committee, the first step to becoming a leader in the Chapter.

In order to be eligible for election as President-Elect, you must have served on the Board of Directors for one year or as a Committee Chair for one year. In order to be eligible for election as Secretary, Treasurer or Director’s position, you must have served on a Chapter committee for one year. In order to be eligible for election in any Director’s position, you must have been a Regular or Distinguished member for one year.

The 2015-2016 Board Executive positions (one-year terms):

  • President – Amy Karnes, CPSM (09/15 – 08/16)
  • President-Elect – Open (09/15 – 09/16)
  • Immediate Past President – Ted Orr (09/15 – 08/16)
  • Secretary – Open (09/15 – 08/16)
  • Treasurer – Open (09/15 – 08/16)

Board Directors-At-Large (two-year terms, some beginning even years & some in odd):

  • Membership Director – Stan Fuller, PE (09/15 – 08/16)
  • Programs & Sponsorship Director – Tom Garske (09/15 – 08/16)
  • Logistics & Special Events Director – Kami Wernimont (09/15 - 08/16)
  • Communications Director – Lisa Connelly (09/15 – 08/16)
  • Education Director – Joel Kohler (09/15 – 08/16)

Committee Co-Chair Positions

  • Communications Co-Chair – Open (09/15 – 08/16)
  • Programs & Sponsorship Co-Chair – Open (09/15 – 08/16)
  • Logistics & Special Events Co-Chair – Open (09/15 – 08/16)
  • Education Co-Chair – Open (09/15 – 08/16)

Each Board position has a Co-Chair position as well. These positions were created in response to member feedback about time commitment and flexibility, we elect Co-Chairs to act as “in-training” positions for each Board Director assuring a smooth transition of an experienced individual to the Director’s position as the previous Directors’ terms ends. It is hoped that this will provide smoother transitions from year to year and provide Directors flexibility in juggling their firm’s work and their duties related to their SMPS Board position.

If you are interested in running for any of the above open positions, please complete the Board nomination form and return it to me, Amy Karnes, CPSM, via email at akarnes@wsastudio.com or deliver to 982 S. Front St., Columbus, Ohio 43206 by April 10, 2015. If you have questions regarding the positions and their responsibilities, please call me at (614) 824-1633.

Sincerely,

The Nominations and Elections Committee
